Social work does not just help people. Preferably, social work operates across three different scales. These scales are micro, macro, and mezzo social work. If a person has a heart of assisting other people in the community, then social work can be a perfect career for such an individual. Social work plays a significant role in helping people with mental illness, families, and communities plagued by drug abuse, unemployment, poor health, homelessness, child neglect, and other serious social problems. According to BLS, social work jobs are supposed to increase by 11% in 2028. However, before people consider pursuing a career in social work, people should first select the social work area they would like to specialize in. I also believe that people must consider all micro, mezzo, and macro-level social work opportunities.
I firmly believe that micro-level social work is one of the most common practice areas of social work. This is because it is performed directly with a family or an individual. Additionally, micro-level social work's primary nature is personal, and it concentrates on one-on-one- interactions with the subjects. It is personified. In this category, social workers can choose to work in hospitals by providing services like discharging patients, counseling, or giving medications. Social workers can also assist the homeless by finding them shelter. They can also choose to help the military in adapting to civilian lifestyles. These social workers can also solders to cope with traumatic experiences during their job. They provide counseling to these families and help them apply and access benefits like healthcare services firm the government. Reisch (2002) states that social workers at the micro-level are also trained to treat and assist people with eating disorders and drug abuse disorders. Some of the most sought social work areas are mental health training, family therapies, and marital therapies. These areas also fall under micro social work. Jobs in a micro-level of social work are offered by nonprofit organizations, schools, agencies, and police satiations. I understand that micro-level social work focuses on addressing and assessing an individual's problems through personal treatment and interaction.
The second category is the macro social work. Social workers under the macro-level are found in government agencies, advocacy groups, and nonprofit organizations. These social workers also associate themselves with large teams of activists, educators, analysts, and government employees.
