Introduction
The element of social work has over time grown out of democratic and humanitarian ideals, with its values primarily based on the prospects of dignity, worth, and respect for all people. Since the advent over a century ago, social work activities are mainly focused on ensuring that the needs of human beings are met, an aspect that develops human potential. This paper, therefore, seeks to delve into the element of social work profession in a bid to establish the manner in which its prospects can be incorporated in human service and interactions with others.
Social Work Profession and its Core Values
The element of social work profession and values relate to intermitted approaches aimed at addressing social issues that relate to human rights in practice. In this case, it is essential to consider that the primary objective of the social work profession and its core values remain in enhancing human well-being to meet their basic needs, with particular emphasis to the needs and empowerment of individuals who are vulnerable, living in poverty, and oppressed. The social work profession and its core values are therefore initiated to promote social change and social justice on behalf of clients inclusively peered to as families, individuals, communities, organizations, and groups.
Additionally, social work profession and its core values remain sensitive to ethnic and cultural diversity, efforts driven towards mitigating the aspects of oppression, discrimination, poverty, and other social injustices. These activities are in the form of community organization, direct practice, advocacy, supervision, social and political actions, and policy developments. Social workers, therefore, need to seek opportunities aimed at enhancing the capacity of individuals in addressing their needs. The need to promote responsiveness within communities, organizations, as well as other social institutions in meeting the needs and social problems of individuals remains essential to the social work profession and its core values.
Incorporation of Social Work Values in Human Service
As a social worker, the values of my profession are directed towards enhancing human well-being and in helping humanity in meeting their needs, with particular emphasis being to the need to empower individuals who are vulnerable, living in poverty and oppressed. My primary goal is ensuring that the professional focuses on the well-being of individual within a social context are addressed for the welfare of the society. In this case, there is a need to take consideration of the fundamental of social work, drawing the attention of the environmental forces that contribute, create, and address problems that hinder the well living of humanity. Secondly, as a social worker, the need to promote social change and social justice remains of the essence in service. In service delivery, as a social worker, the principle of respecting and advancing the rights of my clients to achieve the aspect of self-determination and in assisting the clients in efforts aimed at identifying and clarifying their goals remains essential.
