The prenatal state is very important for the development of the fetus and the overall development of the mother. However, various social and cultural issues in the mother’s life may influence fetal development in this stage. Some of these social and cultural factors may include social economic status, stress, nutrition, and literacy levels, and this paper will showcase how these factors impact prenatal development.
One of the factors that could influence prenatal development is income and poverty. A mother without the financial capacity to buy nutritious foods and keep a balanced diet is likely to end up with complications such as low birth weight of the child or a shorter gestation period. On the other hand, if the mother is financially stable, she is in a position to acquire the best healthcare during the prenatal stage and is likely to give birth to a healthier child (Rini et al., 1999).
