Russia, or the Russian Federation, is one of the world's largest countries. It is located in Eastern Europe even though part of the country is North Asia. Russia also borders the Arctic Ocean towards the Northern side. The country borders other 14 countries, such as Ukraine, Latvia, North Korea, Finland, Belarus, and China (CIA World Fact Book, 2021). The country also shares a maritime border with United States, Turkey, Sweden, and Japan. With an area of 17 million km squared, the country is twice as large as the United States and covers around 10% of the earth's landmass (CIA World Fact Book, 2021). The country has a large landmass with regions that are uninhabitable or uninhabitable. The country has a diverse climate, ranging from subarctic climates in Siberia and humid continental in greater Russia. The terrain consists of broad plains with few hills in the Urals, mountains, and uplands in the southern regions. This paper focuses on the analysis of Russia while considering different variables about the country.
History
Russia was founded in the early 12th century, and it was known as the Principality of Muscovy. The country has evolved for several years, especially during the 13-15th centuries when it was under Mongol rule. With time the rulers absorbed and conquered the surrounding regions. By the 17th century, the Romanov Dynasty had grown immensely while still applying its expansionist policies. When Peter I took leadership from 1682 to 1725, the country had expanded to include the Baltic sea, and the name was also changed to the Russian Empire (CIA World Fact Book, 2021). During the 19 century, the country continued to expand as it absorbed more regions in Asia and Europe. The revolution of 1905 occurred after the country faced defeat in the Russo-Japanese war that occurred between 1904 and 1905. This led to new reforms and the formation of parliament. The Russian army was also defected during the second world war, resulting in riots across various cities in Russia. The imperial leadership lost authority in 1917. A new communist leadership started in 1918 after Vladimir Lenin seized power and later formed the USSR. Joseph Stalin became the leader from 1928 to 1953. He was responsible for strengthening the communist rule and ensured that Russia was very dominant in the region, even though this came with the cost of millions of lives lost during the wars (CIA World Fact Book, 2021). After he lost authority, the community society and economy stagnated until Mikhail Gorbachev came into power, encouraging restructuring and openness, intending to modernize the Soviet Union. However, his decisions were not right since they led to new problems, which resulted in the split of the USSR into the Russian republic and 14 other smaller states in 1991 (CIA World Fact Book, 2021). Since then, the country has changed from a post-soviet democratic idea wot a centralized semi-authoritarian state.
Culture
The name Russian is derived from the word "Rus," which refers to the tribes which became prominent in politics in the Slavic and Kiev towns. Some scholars suggest that the name comes from a Viking clan that arrived from Scandinavia. Russians have been the dominant people in the country, even thoug...
