7-1 and 7-2: Responsibilities, Gradual Changes in Adults

Topic 7 DQ1
An adult can expect gradual changes as one’s body ages. People of different ages tend to differ in many aspects such as social responsibilities, self-perception, and outlook in life. Different societies view aging differently, for example, age of majority, transition such as reaching age of puberty, or retirement which are socially significant. The social and physical aspects of aging process can significantly have an impact on retirement decisions for older adults. Health status is a very important factor because it allows adults to continue in physical labor, and this would influence retirement decision, as one would withdraw oneself from work due to poor health. Financial situation is a social factor which impacts retirement decision as one would opt to remain at work because of social responsibilities such as putting children at the university, and others work towards financial targets that would allow them to retire (Kasten & Kasten, 2011.)

Grand parenting can be highly rewarding. Caring responsibilities is a factor which grandparents might be left with, though unexpectedly, they end up becoming guardians, and also raising small children. This responsibility can affect their normal course of adult development: caring for small children typically takes some efforts, and this means that one would have to adjust ones’ life, from finances, career changes, and lifestyle changes. Raising a small child can bring feelings as one would feel anxiety, and pressure resulting to heightened stress because of adjusting to transition, and financial concerns, which older guardians will need support in caring for ones’ own physical, and health (Sprang et al., 2015). Older guardians experience physical limitations in ones’ daily activities, and caring for small children will require transitions such as; moving around, and interacting with the world in physical manner.
