Role of Drug Abuse as A Youth Culture
Drug abuse among the adolescents is currently on the rise with numerous links to criminal behaviors that leads to juvenile cases and justice. In most cases, the adolescent offenders portray high rates of substance abuse. Besides, the drug use among teenagers increases recidivism with the involvement of the youths in the juvenile justice system. Furthermore, adolescents who abuse drugs have frequent interactions with the juvenile justice system, high rates of offenses which are dangerous among the teenagers. Solving a social such as high rates of crimes needs a link between juvenile justice and adolescent treatment system. Therefore, the essay elaborates the above-highlighted relationships by discussing the below questions.
Question 1: What are the system linkages between the juvenile justice and adolescent treatment system?
An efficient system for treatment of the adolescent provides a proper treatment program that fosters a positive relationship between the adolescents and the community. Besides, the treatment system embraces the set rules and standards with minimum, assessment as well as separation of high-risk repeat offenders from the low-risk teenagers that result to a meaningful treatment due to high response of low-risk adolescents to treatment. On the other hand, juvenile justice system provides empirical and professionally tested treatment and supervision programs for the teenagers within the system (Chassin, 2008).
One of the glaring links between the juvenile offenses and substance abuse is the similar fluctuation patterns and the sequential as well as reciprocating inferences from the consistent trends. Besides, both juvenile offense and substance use decrease as a teenager approaches the late adolescent stage that gives a probability that a when experts handle such cases efficiently, the juvenile treatment system reduces the numbers of juvenile offenders who later become adult lawbreakers. Therefore, breaking the law at a particular age coupled with substance use are significant predictors of the future offenses at the adulthood and such behaviors are usually associated with repeat juvenile offenders (Chassin, 2008).
Secondly, the juvenile justice system and the adolescent treatment systems have similar patterns in dangerous offenders. The juvenile treatment system depends on the juvenile justice to provide the best ways for accessing the individuals and provide quality and continued care. Therefore, it integrates into the juvenile justice (Chassin, Mulvey & Schubert, 2010).
Lastly, experts use the National Institute on Drug Abuse principles within the criminal justice populations. Therefore, such techniques can apply to the juvenile justice and adolescent treatment system. Thus, the NIDA advises the use of substance treatment in the justice system that encompasses careful treatment planning with a continuity of care to the juvenile offenders who are re-introduced in the society. Thus, combining juvenile justice and adolescent treatment system provides a system of reward and sanction to encourage the adolescents to change to pro-social behavior and engage in the treatment program (Chassin, M...
