Our generation is inclined to formulating crisis management strategies in every aspect of life, significantly, to improve people's personal experiences. Annually, many people face crises that they cannot confront. This can be proven by millions of consultations in community mental health and psychiatric centers, advocacy groups against abuse, hospital emergency rooms, and family and school counseling programs.
Roberst & Ottens (2005) studied the clinical application of Roberts’ 7-stage crisis intervention model, also known as R-SSCIM, to participants who demonstrate a crisis state secondary to interpersonal conflicts, those who have pre-existing and exacerbated mental health issues, and those who suffer from events that lead to a crisis.
Often, many people face a crisis without actually understanding that it is already the beginning of a crisis, while others think of every situation as a crisis despite it not being one. This is due to multifaceted factors that include personal, behavioral, mental, and environmental factors and those influenced by intrapersonal and interpersonal factors. Examples of a crisis include the death of a loved one, break-ups, natural calamities of disasters, failure in school or board exams, the bankruptcy of a business or company, and many more.
The response of each individual differs from every crisis. Some respond well while the others do not, and those who cannot confront or challenge the crisis, whether gradually or abruptly, may commit something that can harm them and lead to their demise. This is where the study of Roberts and Ottens enters.
