If you had the opportunity, what kind of rehabilitation program would you develop for offenders? The crime that happens in society that is causing major concern is juvenile vandalism. It refers to vandalism towards the property and causing damage to the community. These actions are conducted by individuals who are referred to as juveniles. Juveniles are individuals who are under the age of 18 years. Juvenile vandalism is considered a concern based on the fact that it leads to property damage, causes financial loss, and leads to a high sense of insecurity in society. Often, juvenile vandalism is seen as a minor crime, but that is not the case because it has serious crimes between offenders and victims (Kennedy et al., 2019). There is a need to address juvenile vandalism to make the community safe, and therefore, restorative justice and approaches are ideal for handling these concerns.
How the Restorative Justice Approach is Used
Young individuals in society commit juvenile vandalism. Often, these individuals need more understanding of the consequences they will face for their actions. Applying restorative justice is effective because it focuses on addressing the problem of juvenile vandalism in the community through communicating and repairing the harm done to the community (Maryland Department of Safety and Correctional Services, n.d). Moreover, through restorative justice, there is a fostering of empathy for the offenders,
