In many instances, religion and politics are intertwined phenomena. Both concepts share fundamental notions and observations. The relation between religion and politics continues to be an essential theme of discussion. Religion and politics deploy the art of power to fulfill their sole purposes, though their ways of achieving such goals are arguably different. While religion uses spiritual rationales and sensibilities to appeal for support and followers, politics deploy diplomacy and intrigues to gain public opinion milestones. Religion and politics strive to express robust claims on people's allegiance. Thus, it is probably inevitable that religious and commitments regarding allegiance, loyalty or disloyalty, followers, and differences will likely lead to conflicts. Conflict and differences in both politics and religions have led to wars in some instances.
More often, religion and politics constitute a mix-up in contemporary societies. The interlinkages between religion and politics have elicited controversies and contestations. Most Americans show positive views and attitudes about religion's role and relevance in society, but they don't like its integration and interrelationships with politics (Pew Research Center,2019). Such observation may underpin the prevalent doctrine of state-religion separation. During the election and political times, most Americans hear at least something about politics at the place of worship (Gecewicz,2020). Still, a recent survey shows that churches and other worship places are not intensely political environments (Gecewicz,2020).
