Racism is a social ill that traces its roots to diversity and identity in ethnicity and race. Racism manifests itself as discrimination, prejudice, and segregation from individual and institutionalized or systemized organizations. Institutionalized and personal-related racism has led to increased bias in criminal and justice systems, policing, trials, and outright racist attributes and rants, contributing to socio-economic harm. Thus, racism should be tackled at all levels, from an individual, institutional, community to the national level. Personal, community and government are expected to recognize the challenge of racism and adopt a transformative social change that would limit racism.
It is everyone’s responsibility to fight racism. one can deploy theoretical approaches such as cognition to avoid racial tendencies. Diversity in ethnicity and race should be celebrated. It should be used to cause divisiveness. Racism rarely benefits the aggressor but may cause far-reaching harm to victims and vulnerable groups. I will take personal responsibility to see the ethnic difference as a source of celebration rather than division.
I will embrace different races and educate my friends against racism. Other steps that I need to take to fight racism include learning to understand and recognize my privileges, re-examine my biases and origins, validate experiences and feelings of racial discrimination and, challenge “colorblind” arguments, and speak against racist jokes. People are encouraged to participate in inclusive community activities at the community level where people of different races and ethnicities can work together or participate equally in community projects or sports.
