The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) was an act that was meant to protect the interests of persons living with disabilities in Ontario, Canada. The main aim of creating the act was to ensure better social standards for persons with both physical and mental disabilities and that they have significant access to public resources as those leading their normal lives. About 1 in every ten Ontarians have either of the above-mentioned disabilities (Admin, 2017). Upon the establishment of other acts such as the Ontarians with Disability Act of 2001 resulted in the early measure of caring for persons with disabilities.
The main aim of the AODA act of 2005 was to improve and help reinforce the Ontarians with Disability Act of 2001 by re-strategizing access to both communications as well as information for all citizens with disabilities. The act helps the disabled population by improving their transportation, increasing their chances in employment, as well as providing for them in built-up areas and setting aside customer care agents for the disabled. The main idea was to allow people with disabilities in the province to be able to access, use and benefit from services and goods offered to the normal citizens living in the province.
To improve on the implementation of the policies named, the legislations for the act stipulated a deadline by 2010 for the public sector and 2012 for the private sector to allow for all individuals in the public sector to comply with all the required structures and resources to support the people with disabilities.
