Niccolo Machiavelli was a diplomat in Florence, Italy, which was considered a dominant Italian power. Ideally, Machiavelli was around when Spain and France were fighting to control Italy, which was falling because of leadership deficiency. Additionally, Machiavelli acted as the Chancellor of Florence for about fourteen years before he was exiled; during this time, the republic was falling, and Machiavelli understood that the world was becoming chaotic. He wrote “the Prince,” which was regarded as a practical guide for effective governing. The Prince also acted as the manual for rulers who were aimed at establishing and retaining control in a state. Additionally, Machiavelli provided an unsentimental analysis of human behavior and the uses of power.
Machiavelli offers advice about the strategies that would be utilized in facilitating stability and reduce hostility among the states. He calls for the new Prince to “introduce a new order” to stop the war in the Italian Peninsula (Machiavelli, 2013). In this case, Machiavelli portrays an ideal government as one that allows different groups with different opinions to co-exist peacefully. Machiavelli’s teachings would be utilized in finding lasting solutions to the current policy debates in the country. For example, while the United States is focused on maintaining the American Primacy, this should be done without threatening inter-state relations and avoiding foreign policy entanglement. However, it is critical to note that Machiavelli asserts that rulers should be feared than be loved by those they rule. He recommends that the head of states must do good when possible and that they may also engage in acts of evil to ensure they remain in power; Machiavelli explains that people like great leaders he says that “the people, whe...
