In a world where persons adore romantic relationships, love is regarded as the most meaningful of all emotions. The ability to have a loving, happy, long-lasting relationship is however not an aspect many people in the present and past relationships can with sincerity attest to. In order to help us understand and converse in emotional love, Dr. Gary Chapman described how love could be expressed in five emotional love languages, which are; physical touch, quality time, acts of service, receiving gifts and words of affirmation. I learned a lot on the expression of love and the lessons that I have tried as much to relate the lessons to my current relationship. I also shared the lessons with my partner.
To begin with, we have words of affirmation. It can be described as the human nature to feel the desire for appreciation. Often, if not most, this is best expressed in appreciative words – compliments given verbally. For instance, if my better half compliments my dressing code for the day, this not only raises my self-esteem for the day but also will motivate me to reciprocate the same and to live up to the compliment in my duties at work. Similarly, using words of encouragement to our loved ones in areas they deem insecure to themselves by employing empathizing and kind words in place of insults will often leave them feeling loved. Also, use of humble and courteous words when making requests and seeking desires and affirming and saying positive things about will also make them feel loved CITATION Jul151 \l 1033 (Julia, 2015). When my partner has prepared food for both of us, I have cultivated the virtue of giving positive complementary to the food. Likewise, when I have done something good for them, they do give a compliment.
Quality time in its best definition can be summarized as focusing entirely on your mate, giving them exclusive attentiveness and awareness. If we both get involved in a similar activity, the same should apply with regards to attention and focus on accomplishing the task as a team. It is also paramount that in having a conversation with your mate, you involve the exchange of opinions, feelings, knowledge, life encounters, desires, and wishes in an affable, welcoming and pleasant environment, or rather context. Note that to achieve this, it’s important to employ: a good and well-maintained eye contact, sympathetically listening to your mate, which employs trying to intuit with their feelings, closely monitoring their body language, not interrupting when they are speaking and not involving oneself in any other activity when you’re listening to them talk.
Another essential language of love is a gift. It is a vital love expression surpassing the barriers of culture. Whether bought, made or just found, giving gifts is a show to your mate that you have been thinking about them and the gift leaves a physical imprint of the thought of love from you to them CITATION Jul151 \l 1033 (Julia, 2015). Similarly, gifting your mate with your presence is an untouchable gift, incomparable to the one offered to your mate via hand, especially when your presence to your mate is all...
