George Herbert Mead’s Theoretical Orientation
George Herbert Mead was influenced by William James and Wilhelm Wundt work when studying philosophy and psychology. Mead’s psychological theories focused on observable actions; his social behaviorism theory analyzed the mind through a behavioral process. He analyzed internal conversation, an individual attitude based on his mind and his potential action (Joas & Huebner, 2016). According to him, individual actions are shaped by imagined responses towards others. Mead viewed the source of the meaning of social interaction that involved threefold relationship that exists between individual gesture, adjustive responses towards others, and the action according to the gesture of the first individual (Joas & Huebner, 2016).
