In the speech “Atlanta Exposition Address,” Booker T. Washington proposed social segregation ought to have been supported, with the whites in turn supporting the economic advancement of blacks (Keene, 2009). Dubois had a contrary view, arguing that this supported the continued enslavement of the black people by the Whites. Washington supported conciliation with White southerners, with Blacks focusing on industrial education to improve their economic status even when they exercised fewer political rights (James, 2009). Dubois also asserted that Washington ignored the role of higher education in empowering Blacks and right to self-determination through political participations.
W.E.B. Dubois emphasized that Africans Americans were to be treated equally when there were no discriminative policies and law, while Pan-Africanism provided a platform for Blacks to share their experiences in solidarity with each other.
