1 What makes the hands of humans and non-human primates unique?
The hands of humans and non-human primates are unique since they are unlike the hands of any other animals. Human and non-human primates share a similar ancestor, a creature known as Northuctus that roamed the earth 50 million years ago. Northuctues was a climber whose hands had evolved into five long fingers that had nails on the end instead of claws. The Unique hand formation of the Northuctus enabled primates to shape their surroundings and eventually evolve into modern human and non-human climates.
2 What evolutionary forces lead to these adaptations?
Evolutionary forces that necessitated the adaptations of human and non-human primates date back to over 350 million years ago when fish began crawling out of the sea using their fins. The fins evolved into reptile-like feet to enable them to ease their movement over land in search of food. The reptile evolved into small mammals and later into the Northuctus creature with long fingers and nails to enable them to climb trees in search of fruits and leaves.
3 How did color vision evolve?
Color vision evolved as the small primates began getting used to living high up in the trees. Since trees have flowers and fruits of different colors, they had to evolve to distinguish red or yellow ripe fruits from green unripe fruits and leaves.
4 Why is it an advantage to primates?
The ability to differentiate different colors gave primates a huge advantage over other animals that are color blind. Color enables primates to communicate, attract attention, and express emotion. The evolution of color has also improved modern primates in terms of their ability to search for food.
