The topic of politics, gender, and power has been around for a while, and the main issue discussed has been the position of the woman in a gendered society. Gender is a form of identity and it determines how women are perceived in the multicultural society. According to Judith and Moore, women have multiple identities that can be explored from different narratives. Women who view feminism as a set of identity tend to focus on moral issues that affect women at the local and global level. Identity shapes feminist thinking and organizing by providing a sense of belonging to the affected group. For women, identity is characterized the manner their bodies are depicted by their male counterparts or proponents of mass media who sexualize feminine bodies for purpose of winning and maintaining the attention of male consumers.
According to Judith and Moore (n.d.), human bodies can be depicted in different forms including beauty, skin color, masculinity, and femininity. Women tend to identify with be beauty, slim figures, and other physical attributes on which people can be judged. When a woman belongs to a given social identity group, she believes that the group has a moral right to be protected from external group that tend to interfere with the right of the social identity group.
