An informal UB library research guide & a note on academic sources 
Hi all, 
This has gone unsaid but allow me to be more explicit. When I say two sources are required I mean two academic, peer-reviewed sources. Citing CNN.com or the new york times or a website like hiphopdx will not meet the formal requirement for using academic sources for your essay.
You certainly can cite popular news sources to add narrative detail or to supplement your paper's argument/thesis but those do not/will not qualify as academic sources.
Research Pro Tip #1 - Let me say first off that a great way to find relevant sources to research is to simply check the bibliographies of the books we're studying to see who they are citing/referring to! 
If you have not already done so, I encourage you to research the library's catalog to find monographs (i.e. books, like Marable's, Chang's, Ogbar's etc) but also articles that are published and peer-reviewed in any number of different academic journals which you have access to at the above link below (places like Project Muse or JSTOR). Be sure to also keep in mind that book reviews of academic sources do not qualify as an academic sources.

Introduction
It is generally believed that the Hip-hop, just like any other forms of art which came up during the Harlem Renaissance, have provided the empowerment of African-Americans in the Society. Although this might be true to some extent, scholars are now arguing that due to mass media and its portrayal of Afro-Americans, these forms of art are now mostly vehicles of prejudice and stereotypes as viewed by most people. In this article, the author would focus on the analysis of Hip-hop and how, through the dominance of Social media, it became a vessel for prejudice against the “Blacks”. More particularly, the author believes that the main reason for the emergence of these stereotypes is due to the combination of external prejudice over the Blacks which is then reified through Hiphop.
Black Prejudice and Hip-hop Music
In the article written by Reyna, Brandt, and Tendayi Viki (2009), the authors discussed how does actual negative perceptions about the Blacks (e.g. laziness and economic plight) becomes a subject for the “anti-rap attitudes”. According to them, this process of prejudice reinforcement are simply circular since while prejudice towards a certain population influences the perception of their own art and culture, these mediums then become the channel for the reification of steroetypical perceptions. In line with Hip-hop, the author argued that the discriminative perceptions and actions towards the blacks, results in a negative acceptance of the Hiphop music for other cultures.
