According to Nicol (2021), the primary intention of Florida-based legislation proposed in the article is to discourage third-party spoiler candidates before elections who intentionally drop off their party and decide to run as an independent candidate out of their party. The Florida Legislature enforced the law stating that potential candidates should not dare switch from their affiliated political parties during the last election minutes in the simplest terms possible. The co-sponsors claim that walking out of a party at the last minute does not demonstrate election integrity. Also, German et al. (2018) support the claims stating that most constitutions consider such a behavior to be unconstitutional and not being democratic at all.
Regarding the lesson I have taken from the article, all individuals resigning from their political parties shortly before elections to run for different political seats are "spoilers."
