Statistical chances of their children having the genetic disorder
It is likely that Mr. Brown’s brother was affected by the genetic conditions since the parents had recessive mutant alleles (copies of a gene), which were then manifested and the brother was affected. Since Mr. Brown does not have the genetic disorder, there are two scenarios he either has no mutant genes or is an unaffected carrier. Mr. Brown claims that his brother carries a recessive gene, and based on the assumption that Mrs. Brown is unaffected by the mutant genes then there is no chance of the children being affected by the genetic disorder.

A carrier is a person who has one copy of a normal gene, while the other working copy is normal (Westman, 2005). If Mr. Brown has a recessive gene , then assuming that his genes are Aa representing a carrier, while the genes of an affected person is aa and the unaffected person is AA.
