In the field of health and nursing, a critical appraisal functions more than just an analysis and a review of a specific study. In these fields, performing an appraisal (or a rapid critical appraisal) can have a huge impact in the health and well-being of the patient. As according to Fineout-Overholt et al (2010), “the purpose of critical appraisal isn’t solely to find the flaws in the study but to determine its worth in the practice”. In my own topic – fall in elderly in acute care facilities – performing a critical appraisal can provide a quick and reliable resource for cases like these. In many hospitals this problem have persisted and have made the patients face more harm than good, thus making it an urgent issue that needs to be discussed.
