As I was reading the novel, the first thing I thought was it was just another love story. With the introduction of Heathcliff , I already assumed that the adopted boy will fall in love with Catherine, the daughter of the Mr. Earnshaw. From the other books that I have read, it has always been the same that the poor boy will fall in love with the beautiful lady who shows him kindness. However, as the story progresses, new characters have been put into the scene and what I assumed earlier was proven to be wrong. A kind, gentle, civilized, and wealthy young man named Edgar Linton is now a rival of Heathcliff on the heart of Catherine. Even if Catherine admitted that she loved Heathcliff more deeply than Edgar, she still chose to marry the latter because of his social status.
