Environmental issues are complicated and challenging to solve because of economic and political factors surrounding them. Greenhouse gas emissions are an environmental issue in the United States. The issue harms the earth's climate by causing global warming, which is exhibited by frequent droughts and floods, ocean acidification, destruction of biodiversity, and an increase in sea levels (Von Berg, 2012). To combat the problem, the United States adopted carbon taxes to reduce the number of carbon emissions from fossil fuels (Kosnik, 2018).
However, the issue of carbon taxes has generated numerous controversies. Republicans argue that high carbon taxes should be reduced to encourage investment. On the other hand, Democrats argue that carbon taxes should remain as they are to prevent pollution.
