The state requires energy from different sources such as natural gas, coal, petroleum, and nuclear to generate electric power, which they use to power hospitals, industries, and schools. This paper looks at what stands out about the different states' energy profiles and whether there is a need for the federal government to intervene and achieve uniformity in the energy sector.
There is a significant disparity between energy consumption and production by the different states in the U.S. As of 2018, Texas, the most significant energy producer at 21.3% of the country's energy production, spends 498 million Btu, which is less than the amount of energy consumed by Iowa which consumes 513million Btu and only produces 0.9% of the country's energy ("United States - U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)," 2021). Despite global warming being a major concern in this era, most states still relied on coal as an energy source. Coal as an energy source can get replaced by other renewable energy sources that do not threaten humanity's existence.
