DQ 1-2: Enhance the Quality of Care for Americans, Affordable Care Act, Role of Assisting Others to Live a More Responsible Life

Topic 7 DQ 1             In a recent book published by the American Mental Health Foundation (Schill & Lebovici, 2015) explains that mental health is no longer preoccupied with “intrapsychic variables [that] concern with the interaction of the individual and his or her social environment”. There is a need to reach out to non-pathological populations in order to prevent repercussions of mental health concerns on an individual’s physical health and productivity.             I,  support the government in its quest to “enhance the quality of care for all Americans” (MedicAid.Gov, 2015a), and “to help others [by providing] fair and equal treatment” (“NAADAC/NCC AP Code of Ethics,” 2015) to all who come to us for help. And yet, I also see the need “to use available resources in a judicious  and conscientious manner” (“NAADAC/NCC AP Code of Ethics,” 2015) so that we can provide the best service to our clients. As such, I propose that the organization has to first discover the profiles of its clients, find out which group  is typically supported, as well as the characteristics (age, sex, kind and degree of illness) of such a group. Once the organization knows the details of who they typical client is, they can now restructure its programs. In my case, I think that it is important for my organization to cut all the other programs (counseling services, support for children and their parents, individuals who engage in substance abuse, etc.) and to focus only on the most seriously ill of our clients. I think that we need to focus on the quality of the service we are delivering, and should demand the best performance from our personnel. I think that we should hire only the best professionals, to train them and acquire technologies that can equip them better in handling the specialized concern of our clients. Topic 7 DQ 2 The Affordable Care Act has provisions for programs and “funding improvements to help ensure that people can receive long-term care services and supports in their home or the community” (MedicAid.Gov, 2015b). Through the community-based long-term services and supports, I can continue to provide my clients with the service because the state can provide funding to the community’s chosen services and professionals.
