Responsibilities of Coach & Client
Karen is a relatively recent job market entrant. Fresh from a prestigious college a few years ago, Karen landed a corporate job many dream of. Despite not being a newbie to her employer, whom she interned for during college years, Karen has, however, increasingly experienced a growing sense of alienation, or organizational ostracism (Boyatzis & Jack, 2018). In her view, she feels no longer fit for an organization once an extremely successful intern for but now an “organizational unfit” (Peltier, 2009, p. 236) in an organizational climate no longer showing affective experiences (Parke & Seo, 2016) she was used to as an intern. This “cultural change” has put Karen under much stress and, as a result, was too hard to endure alone, unguided, uncoached. Accordingly, Karen and I signed a coaching agreement according to which our coaching relationship is defined and, should a dispute arise, is arbitrated against. Generally, I am responsible for coaching material and matters, unless I advise otherwise for specific coaching purposes.
Boundaries of Confidentiality: Client, Organization & Stakeholders
Typically, I run intensive and immersive coaching sessions for corporate executives. These fall within a range of 1-4 weeks, inclusive of all pre-session discussions, material planning and course outcomes endorsement. For Karen, a two-week immersive course is expected given Karen’s high motivation and readiness for stress control and management. best-in-industry practices (“Code of Ethics,” n.d.) and informed by a long-standing experience in executive coaching. Notably, Karen, referred to as “Client” in all coaching material and documents, has received a Confidentiality Agreement according to which I acknowledge non-disclosure of any coaching-related matters she receives under my administration and delivery in order to overcome emotions of organizational ostracism she has increasingly experienced at her current organization. The sessions are, upon a mutual agreement (also included in “Coaching Agreement”) are set up at Country Club X, well known for low-traffic between 6 pm and 8 pm and also a personal preference of Karen.
Cost of Coaching
From start, Karen has shown flexibility for coaching fees. The concerns she has most, Karen has confided to me, are more about her adaptation to a new organizational situation and less about money. Consequently, setting a charge of $250 / hour has been approved and included immediately in Coaching Agreement.
