My ecological footprint is 5 hectares.
Given that the planet has 1.7 global hectares per person, my high ecological footprint means that my usage of the planet’s resources is not sustainable. The report also says that it takes 3 earths to support my lifestyle.

In their article, Blomqvist, et al. (2013) define biocapacity as “the amount of biological productivity available within the six land-use types.” (p.1). The land-use type described this, in this case, include grazing land, cropland, forest, built-up land, fishing ground, and the area of forest required to offset human carbon emissions.
A key criticism about the ecological footprint calculator by Blomqvist, et al. (2013) is that it does not indicate sustainability in the use of global or domestic biological resources. Furthermore, the authors note the calculator is a poor presentation of how well humans are managing the planet because the planet has already experienced a significant amount of harm including water scarcity, declining soil fertility, loss of evolutionary history, and depletion of fisheries.
