Understanding the importance of various human-environment interactions is essential, not only for scientists but for anyone. This is because human actions and their environmental impact have a complex interrelation with one another, which ultimately affects each other. In line with this, the author of this article would like to focus on the current study made on the lurking dangers of disposed of metal barrels in the United States’ West Coast. In an article written by Murphy (2021), entitled 25,000 Barrels Possibly Laced With DDT Are Found Off California Coast, it was shown how past human actions could lead to severe risks and repercussions on the environment. Notably, this article shows that human actions have contributed to the degradation of the environment and the need for more proactive conservation efforts on the part of the State.

Ass mentioned in this case, the current event is the environmental issue regarding the presence of deteriorating barrels on the West Coast. Current research and mapping studies show that around 25,000 industrial barrels were present at an estimated area of 12 miles from the sea coast of Los Angeles. Upon further studies, it was found out that most of these barrels contained DDT and other chemicals before it was banned in the 1970s. Some studies also show that this is one of the most likely reasons for the high incidence of cancer in sea lions in the area.
