Conducted in 1932, the Tuskegee Syphilis Study was a malicious, unethical and infamous clinical study in the history of the United States. The world criticized the U.S. Public Health Service for undertaking an experiment on rural African Americans without bringing the fact to their knowledge. They were told that free healthcare facilities would be provided to the participants of this study, but neither their disease was treated nor they were provided with any financial help.
This 40-year long study took the lives of various African American men. Even though penicillin was discovered to treat syphilis, researchers involved in this study did not tell the 399 participants what was going to happen in coming days.
