EDWARD SNOWDEN: Hero or Villain?
Edward Snowden, a former computer professional, former CIA agent and former contractor of the US government allegedly leaked classified information which contained revelations about global surveillance programs that were run by the NSA with cooperation from major telecommunication companies.
The United States Department of Justice charged Snowden with counts of the violation on the Espionage Act. The DHS should make a step towards minimizing eavesdropping into people’s lives and use other methods rather than directly spying into its own citizen’s livelihood, which is against the citizens right to privacy. They should also reduce their reliance on machines. The DHS should also stop pursuing Snowden and act on how to use alternative methods of surveillance rather than spying. For him, being granted asylum in countries such as Russia and China may put the sensitive material he possesses in jeopardy. His exile may come at a hefty price hence he should be brought in under protective custody CITATION Ded14 \l 1033 (Dedman, Brunker, & Cole, 2014).
