An argument on whether physicians and nurses should aid patients who desire to end their lives after a prolonged illness has been up on debate for a long globally. The discussion on whether citizens should opt for expensive medication that prolog life versus legalization of death with dignity for the terminally ill patients is still pending. Given a chance, I would choose death with dignity and euthanasia over the use of expensive life support drugs and machines, which may be costly, and the severe pain endured during the illness. In the case of terminal illness, patients hop from one hospital to another, spending most of their last days in nursing homes and hospices. Furthermore, the right to die should be made a personal choice, and people should not be forced to live against their own will. The only strong point for individuals against the legalization of euthanasia is that the act will have a wide range of detrimental effects, such as diminished protection of lives.
Utilitarianism theory is a moral theory that is concerned with the consequences of Physician actions. The idea is said to be morally right if the actions result in increased pleasure, wellbeing, and happiness of the patients.
