Do not go Gentle into that Good Night and Psalm of Life
Firstly, the two authors see death as another difficulty that should not prevent people from following their dreams because it is inevitable. Dylan Thomas wrote the poem, “do not go gentle into that good night” to his father.. He asks his father to get angry against the dying light. Primarily he pleads his father to ignore inevitable as well as aggressive thoughts of death. Henry Longfellow’s poem, “the psalm of life,” asks the reader about the derailment that always appears from one’s past to live in the present whereas often remaining aware of their final fate of death (Osborne-Bartucca, 2016). Longfellow is optimistic and in place of waiting for his death, he remains strong and pursues his dreams in place of their end. The two authors think the same and life is a chance that every person should take as it comes.
Secondly, the two authors argue that individuals should not give in to the negativities of life. Individuals face diverse challenges and whereas some give up easily, others keep on moving ahead and remain high aimers. Dylan recognizes that all men irrespective of their characters have difficulties and none of them should give up the dying light. He requests the people to fight the difficulties and often aim great in place of the fateful end. Similarly, Longfellow presents death as another difficulty which persons should not magnify but establish a way to live and realize dreams. Longfellow urges his readers to work hard since hardworking has no substitute as well as an excuse. He begs the readers not to be like dumb, driven cattle and instead be heroes in the struggle. This makes the readers vigilant especially in the face of a challenge such as death.
