Oppressive rule and colonialism have decolonized and eroded nations. It is believed that nationalism is a solution to these aspects. As a social factor, nationalism gives great importance to the present world (Alam, 1980). This paper defines nationalism by analyzing the view of the theories and ideas of modern nationalism.
Evolution of Nationalism
The origin of nationalism can be traced to the Greeks and Hebrews. The concept became widely known when national states started shaping in the 17th century. Later, states achieved the loyalties given to the region, church, city, and ruler, which became a solid political institution. With the execution of King Luis XVI of French, the symbol of unity was demolished, and modernization made an appearance. Therefore, it can be deduced that modern nationalism was reshaped during the French Revolution of 1978 (Alam, 1980).
