Conflict Resolution Tactics to Avoid
1 The conflicts I have witnessed most include; avoiding confrontation and being defensive. Avoiding conflict happens when one fails to speak out when angry. This will cause tension throughout the relationship and eventually explode and cause a more intense argument. Being defensive occurs when one or both parties deny their wrongdoing, arguing they did not cause the problem. This does not help resolve conflicts since it increases stress on both parties, thus causing long-term issues.
2 During a conflict, my tactics are stonewalling and forgetting to listen. Stonewalling is when a partner fails to listen to their counterpart. The tactic does not help in conflict resolution since it might show the other partner that I have no respect for them, thus causing more conflicts and prolonged periods of silence. Forgetting to listen occurs a party interrupt when the other party is talking. It does not help as I do not attempt to listen and understand the other party, and I cannot see their point of view.
3 a). Avoiding conflict. I do not speak when my younger sibling throws tantrums
b). Being defensive. I deny that it is my responsibility to wash the dishes while it is my duty on the same day.
c). Overgeneralizing. I address my sister for always overcooking food
d) Being right. I address my mother for not bringing home the costume I requested for Halloween.
e). Psychoanalyzing. I know what has made my mother buy a different costume other than what I wanted.
f). Forgetting to listen. I think about what to tell my sibling next in my defense rather than listen to what they are saying at the very moment.
g). Blame game. I tell my siblings...
