As Tanya mentions, groups battling drug and alcohol dependency can be organized into groups that have both the children and their parents (Logan, 2015). This is an approach that helps the children and their parents to connect fundamentally and to better focus on the objectives of the group. This also helps to create a safe environment where the members are confortable from the support offered. Role playing can easily help the members to address the issue of quitting with promising results (Lehman, 2016).
Sabrina
As Sabrina states, group members that are dealing with drug and/or substance abuse can best benefit from a structure that involves the children and the parents (Lehman, 2016). This will provide much needed support systems for the addicts and better present a platform for the family members who are all fighting the issue on different fronts to find a lasting solution. Blame is a common aspect in this setup and it can be addressed by increasing the level of cooperation among the members (Logan, 2015).
Carra
Although Carra does not provide the actual scenario where they would apply the children-parent approach in a group therapy, they rightly state the various benefits that can be accrued from such a setup. This is a setup that, as Carra states, which will enhance the interaction between the children and their parents in the joined efforts of reaching their personal counseling goals (Goodtherapy.org, 2016). Carra, in this case does not also provide a challenge associated with this group setup and how to resolve the situation (Melbourne Child Psychology, 2016).
