College students outside the university engage in drinking secondary to personal or socio-cultural, both having the most significant influence (Mishra & Panda, 2019). These actions may be accepted outside the campus as this is their freedom to choose for themselves, but it is different within the school’s jurisdiction. Alcohol drinking should be banned inside Floria’s college campuses due to its safety, health, behavioral, and academic consequences. Additionally, any death related to alcohol consumption inside the campus will hold the involved people reliable, mainly when the death resulted from violence.
Safety reasons include increased prevalence of assaults, sexual assaults, and accidents following drinking. Around 696,000 students suffer from violence inflicted by another drunk student. Moreover, 1 out of 5 women on college campuses is sexually assaulted by men secondary to alcohol consumption in their whole stay on the campus. Motor vehicular accidents are also common, and 1 519 college students die from such accidents (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, 2021).
Health consequences involve both physical and mental health. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (2021) revealed that in 2019, 9% of college students were diagnosed with alcohol use disorder. This also increases the incidence of risky sexual behaviors that may incur sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Alcohol drinking may result in behavioral problems. Hendriks et al. (2021) revealed that those who engage in alcohol drinking might post inappropriate content on social media that are unacceptable to current social norms, from the day of drinking to the following day. The incidence is also positively correlated to the number of glasses drank.
