Gwen
Forming a group and working with one requires strategic planning and execution. As Gwen mentions in the post, there is need to make sure that all the members of the team are comfortable with one another. The members need to feel that they are part of the group (Corey, Corey & Corey, 2010). Using the blind fold exercise is a crucial start that helps the members get a sense of trust. This is a good starter for the members (National Center for Biotechnology Information, 2005).
Beth
The exercise by Beth is rather intense for a first time meeting. It is crucial that the exercise selected is largely associated with getting the members to feel safe and comfortable within the group (National Center for Biotechnology Information, 2005). Given that this a group of teenagers who have been associated with drug use, quite a number will be angry and anxious. It is crucial that their first exercise creates a relaxed atmosphere such as a fun game would (Iowa State University of Science and Technology, 2016).
Krist
As Krist starts out the exercise, this is a strategic move to get the members relaxed for the main exercises. Fun games that are also strategic and relevant to the course of the group objectives are important. The ‘Find Someone Who Can Say Yes’ game is a great way to get the members interacting in fun activities before they can start on the counselling bits (Gladding, 2014).
