There exist different types of religions across the world, each of them having different beliefs and practices. However, the concept of salvation and its role in an individual or community is found in most religions, albeit based on different belief systems. In the Christian religion, salvation is understood to be God’s plan to save humans from sin through the death and resurrection of His son Jesus Christ. Accordingly, Christians believe that God created humans as perfect beings, but sin manifested through their first parents – Adam and Eve. Therefore, humans were alienated from God, and He sought to redeem them back to Himself by allowing Jesus to pay the ultimate price for sin by dying on a cross. Although variant views exist among different Christian denominations on aspects such as the sinful human nature or how God removes sin’s consequences and forgives humankind, there is a consensus that salvation is wrought by having faith in Christ and His sacrificial death for humankind.
An individual perceives salvation by acknowledging that they are sinful, after which they start a new life in Christ. In the foregoing, the experience of salvation begins by one believing in Jesus as their savior. They are then baptized as a public demonstration of renouncing sin and starting a new life as a follower of Christ. What follows is receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit by laying of hands in some denominations or prayer offered by the clergy.
