Religion entails organized denominations or a personal belief. It is an essential aspect of American society. A large number of Americans believe that religion is vital in preserving the society as a whole. Currently, only 44% of Americans support religion and belief in God as a means of having good and moral values (Tamir et al., 2020). Currently, every citizen has freedom of religion. American has traditionally been a religious country, and the first settlers regarded themselves as agents of the divine authority. Today, many Americans attend a place of worship. The country has diverse religious denominations ranging from Catholics, Islam, Hindu, and Jews. In American society, a majority of the population does not think that religion is essential in their daily lives, and this is attributed to education, age, and wealth.
Even though Americans believe that religion is essential, the individuals who have such a belief is reducing. A majority of Americans do not believe in any religion and its importance in their lives. The trends can be attributed to economic development and GDP. Based on the data, a majority of developing countries with a low Gross Domestic Product when compared to the US tend to have a higher rate of people who believe in God. For example, 96% of the respondents from the Philippines and Indonesia suggest that believing in God is critical for a person to have good values. This is also the same case with Kenya, which has a low GDP, but over 95% of the population believes in God (Tamir et al., 2020).
