My first area of profound interest for research lies in examining identity formation among mixed-race youth. As the parent of mixed-race children, I bear daily witness to their nuanced struggles in their quest for self-identification. From the continual barrage of queries like "what are they," indicative of society's unrelenting need to categorize them, to engaging in holidays that recognize the disparate elements of their ancestry, the journey of mixed-race youth towards self-discovery is multifaceted and complex. Accordingly, recent research indicates that this population has shown a significant uptick in suicide attempts, suggesting a harrowing connection between the tumultuous voyage of identity formation and mental health issues (Nguyen et al., 2023; Kang et al., 2022). This personal proximity and these unsettling trends draw me to delve deeper into this issue. I hope to contribute valuable insights to this under-explored field and possibly inform future policies and support structures that may mitigate these challenges.

Identity Development
* Introduction
Development among children in society is a crucial issue under research. It is essential to understand the elements that influence the development process of children, which can be helpful in decision-making (Keenan et al., 2016). The identity development among adolescents from mixed races has been a topic of interest for research. In modern society, understanding how mixed-race adolescents navigate their identity development is primary to understanding the elements that influence their mental health (Rockquemore & Brunsma, 2017). Mostly, mental health and emotional development among youths is a problem that may result from having a hostile environment where they grow (Keenan et al., 2016; O’reilly et al., 2018). In retrospect, the youths within mixed-race families often find it challenging to identify the cultures and social constructs they should identify with. Rockquemore & Brunsma (2017) argue that this confusion can affect their well-being as they grow into young adults. As a parent of mixed-race children, I have a deep interest in finding out the challenges that the youths face in their endeavors to find self-identity. The rise in cases of suicide attempts by youths calls for a deeper understanding ad exploration of the relationship between mental health and identity development.
* Importance of Studying Identity Formation Among Mixed-Race Youth
Therefore, exploring the topic will be fundamental in highlighting the challenges and strengths of mixed-race youths. The outcomes could be significant in addressing issues relating to educational programs and support systems for adolescents within mixed-race families (Das et al., 2016).
* Literature Review: Current Understanding of the Topic
A limited body of literature documenting the challenges of young adolescents in mixed-race families exists today. However, more researchers have extensively focused on exploring the topic to shed more light on the issues such individuals undergo in modern society (Garcia et al., 2019). Scholars interested in the issue have mainly explored the impacts of family dynamics, peer relationships, and the social misconceptions and constructs of identity formation for mixed-race individuals (Evans & Evans, 2022; Loyd et al., 2023). In connection with this exploration, there is still a need to explore the impacts of mixed-race families on mental health stability among adolescents in modern society (Profe & Wild, 2017).
* Contribution to the Body of Literature
By creating a meta-analysis on this topic, the aim is to immensely contribute to analyzing existing literature while also collecting more data related to the impacts of race on identity development for the selected population (Bobbitt, 2020). Analyzing and correlating literature from other authors on the same topic can identify trends, patterns, or potential gaps. In addition, the meta-analysis seeks to highlight the relationship between identity development, development assets, and mental health among mixed-race adolescents (Garcia et al., 2019; Meca et al., 2019). Thus,...
