The Characteristics of Behavior Modification in the Classroom
Characteristics of behavior modification
The two major characteristics of behavior modification include positive or negative punishment and reinforcement. Children understand their behavioral choices through lead choices from positive consequences. The model helps children take action on their choices and avoid negative outcomes (Gunawan et al., 2018). Negative behavior is modified through punishment. Positive punishment constitutes an effective behavior modification approach to mitigate problematic behavior. Positive reinforcement entails rewarding a child to reinforce positive behavior.
Difference between methodological and radical behaviorism
According to applied behavior analysis (ABA), radical behaviorism assumes that thinking is an act of talking to oneself. In contrast, methodological behaviorism assumes that talking is an overt response mediated by external stimulus or organismic variables. The response comes from the physical setting as per the psychological model. The orgasms from within an individual dictate the response the person displays. Conversely, radical behaviorism entails ‘private events’ by connecting them to various environmental considerations such as social skills and social settings (Gunawan et al., 2018). These factors increase an individual’s anxiety level leading to the private act of talking to oneself.
