Social psychology is the scientific study of people's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in social places. Social and cultural competencies are critical aspects that derive social psychology and cultural application. This paper reflects on the various benefits of these two concepts and examples of social psychological concepts that can be learned from a cross-cultural perspective. The excerpt also focuses on the potential problems that might arise if cross-cultural perspectives are ignored in research.
Social competence is the emotional, social, behavioral, and cognitive skills a person develops. Scientific research plays a critical role in social competence since it offers researchers with necessary data involving the interaction of people during certain situations. This skill allows folk to preserve close relationships, associate accordingly with individuals from different backgrounds, and uphold values that escalate inclusivity. On the flip side, cultural competence consists of recognizing, communicating, and connecting with persons from different cultures. In healthcare, it refers to the skills providers can utilize to fathom patients' cultural values, behaviors, and attitudes, particularly those with various cultural backgrounds that differ from those of specialists (Grenier, 2020). Cultural competency comprises four crucial components, including attitude, awareness, skills, and knowledge each day. A competent leader in a work setting embraces societal diversity, understands languages and cultures, and respects differences.
Culturally competent researchers play a significant role because they can create trust with participants, network successfully with these groups, and ensure the participants feel at ease and appreciated. Furthermore, it offers an appropriate analysis of findings because it is integral for researchers to understand cultural awareness to analyze and interpret their findings accordingly. Studies show that enhanced healthcare providers' cultural competency is essential in decreasing health disparities and enhancing healthcare delivery to linguistically and culturally diverse people (Oikarainen et al., 2019). Alternatively, social competence helps develop solid social support and work together with others. Since the world is complex and connected, social competence helps participants connect quickly.
