Schema therapy was first developed by Jeffrey E. Young, and was used as an intervention in personality disorders, including those in the chronic DSM axis I conditions. The therapy merges aspects of cognitive behavioral therapy, emotion-focused therapy, psychoanalysis, and attachment theory. In this regard, the schema therapy is perceived to be comprehensive and integrative approach that is intended to treat the personality conditions. The therapeutic interventions are also used to treat mental health problems.
