Some of the people who develop posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD|) have a history of anxiety disorder, and the risk factors associated with PTSD are similar to those of anxiety disorders, but in PTSD there is exposure to a traumatic life event and stressor-related events. As such, genetic factors are one risk factor as people with a family history of anxiety disorders are more susceptible to developing PTSD after exposure to a traumatic event (Knowles et al., 2019). The appearance of PTSD symptoms depends on a person’s environment since traumatic events cause or worsens the mental health condition. The way people respond to the traumatic stressors may affect the future likelihood of harm where perceptions of threat from the traumatic event are associated with a higher risk of PTSD.
