The emergence of the COVID-19 created palpable shockwaves across the globe. The COVID-19 impact permeates all spheres of humanity. It has shaped people's opinions, attitudes, behaviors and general feelings about life. Currently, there is much uncertainty about life. The death of loved ones has caused unprecedented misery and suffering. The measures undertaken by authorities have disrupted conventional life and socialization. People no longer freely interact or socialize and interact in clubs, restaurants, weddings, sports events or churches. Some People are losing jobs, and businesses are closing down or scaling down due to reduced operations and profitability. In addition, the controversies surrounding the issues of the COVID-19 vaccine and the information regarding the coronavirus creates more uncertainty. All these complexities and challenges substantially impact people's behaviors and attitudes in a multifaceted approach.
Analysis of response to COVID-19 illustrates peoples' attitudes and behaviors towards this contemporary pandemic. The public was allocated immense personal responsibility of taking precautionary measures to prevent COVID-19 infection due to lack of definitive treatment and “non-assurance vaccination” (Lee, Kang & You,2021). Thus, the populace behavioral and attitudinal patterns towards COVID-19 become important centers of interest in determining public response to policy directives and health authorities’ recommendations on approaches to preventing COVID-19 infections. The implementation and enforcement measures are taken to adequate the public against COVID-19 infection have been received by mixed reactions. For instance, incidences of violence have been on the rise, where some people have even been shot for not wearing masks, while others have shot death those who questioned their behaviors of not wearing masks. This observation brings to question the differing attitudes and behaviors towards COVID-19 and interventional measures or recommendations. Thus, there is a need to relook at theoretical frameworks or models that explain human behavior and attitudes towards COVID-19. Behavioral science such as psychology plays a fundamental role in combatting the impact of an infectious disease outbreak emergency, such as the COVID-19 pandemic (Weston, Ip, A., & Amlôt,2020). Research in the behavioral sciences must concentrate on recognizing barriers and approaches of eliminating such impediments to improve public compliance with recommended emergency response and infection prevention behaviors. For instance, decontamination, medication adherence, vaccination and social distance practices can be modelled according to how people will perceive and develop attitudes towards such behavioral patterns (Weston, Ip, A., & Amlôt,2020). Will people adhere to precautionary measures when they are forced? Do people take recommended measures seriously when there is a lot of scientific controversies, misinformation, unpredictability and uncertainties?
