In this article, we will focus on the myth that every person has a dominant part of their brain, such as when a person is said to be right-brained, they tend to be much more creative, and when a person is said to be left-brained, they tend to be much more analytical and take things based on sound logic. In this article, the author will compare the above-mentioned pop psychology myth to a reputable source of knowledge in order to discover the reality behind this psychological myth.
The pop-psychology articles I have gathered discuss how our mind is far more dominating than its other half just by the way we think and perceive the world around us. According to popular psychology, more creative, artistic, and adventurous persons are right-brained, whereas people who think analytically and methodically are left-brained (Hammond, 2022). According to (Britannica n.d.), the assumption that there are right-brained and left-brained persons is a total lie; in fact, we humans use our brains 100 percent of the time and do not have a dominant side of our brain.
The distribution of erroneous information online, self-help books, personality tests, treatments, and educational resources that claim to help you enhance the functioning of the stronger half of your brain has contributed to the illusion that we have a much more dominant side of our brain. No legitimate and trustworthy study has revealed that our brain has a dominant side; even brain imaging technology offers no evidence that this myth is accurate (Britannica, n.d.).
