Objective:  The objective of this assignment is to introduce students to the format of primary scientific research articles and to nurture skills in summarizing and interpreting scientific findings.
Instructions:
1. Choose one article from the collection of articles in the Paper Assignment folder on CANVAS.  There are several articles to choose from which are relevant to our discussion topics this semester.
2.  Next, read the article and summarize each section in your own words.  Think BIG PICTURE.  If you had to inform a colleague about relevant and significant information from the study, how would you interpret the information in the study?
3.  Please use the template provided below. You may type directly into the template, save as a word document and post.  Your essay does not have to be one cohesive essay. The questions in each section are provided as initial prompts; you may summarize additional information if necessary. 
4.  Include a Reference page at the end with the proper citation for your article in APA format.
In the Results section, I do not expect that you will understand advanced statistics; I ask only that you name the statistical tests and any significant findings.
The length will vary considerably depending on the article that you choose. Some sections will be briefer than others.  Provide a thorough answer; however, I am not expecting you to describe every detail, provide a general summary.
Your summary should be in your own words and not the author’s.  If you want to include a direct quote, make sure to also include the proper citation in APA style.

Introduction/Background
I am going to summarize the article titled Emerging Adult Identity Development, Alcohol Use, and Alcohol-Related Problems during the Transition out of College. Published in 2016, it was written by Jonathan R. Gates, William R. Corbin, and Kim Fromme. The aim of their study was to highlight how teenagers increase their dependence on alcohol and how this problem ends when they become adults. The decline in the use of alcohol has been referred to as maturing out (Gates, et al. 2016). This clearly means that when teenagers reach their maturity, they develop an understanding that the use of alcohol is not good for their health and that this addiction can destroy both their personal lives and professional lives. Using time-varying covariate growth models, the three experts proved that all teenagers were not able to quit on alcohol when they grew up or when they started their practical lives. Some of them became self-focused, meaning they did not care about what others say or think about them even when they had become adults. Data was collected from a large sample of college students (N = 907) during senior year (Wave 1) and the two following years (Waves 2-3). It was used to prove the hypothesis. The experts carefully and keenly examined the relationship between two or more aspects of emerging adult identities and drinking outcomes (like alcohol use and problems). The hypothesis was that teenagers would never quit alcohol if they were not required to focus on people around them. In simple words, it can be said that the more they take responsibility for life, the higher are their chances of quitting their addiction because their attention is diverted and they no longer remain self-focused.

As already said, data for this study was collected from college students. Most of them were 20 years old and were of the view that it was impossible for them to live a single day without alcohol (Gates, et al. 2016). Some of them even said that they began using alcohol at the age of 15, and others said that they were only drinking alcohol while partying.
