In psychology, competency is a psychologist’s ability to effectively cope with specific challenges associated with the practice, exercise control over behaviors and emotions while dealing with patients, and adapt to new environments. It further involves a psychologist’s knowledge acquired through practical and theoretical training that enables psychologists to deal with and help patients according to the set codes and rules of practice.
