Understanding the differences in circumstances, effects, and strategies in dealing with the psychological effects of disasters for children is essential for any healthcare professional. It allows him to have a more appropriate and effective approach for dealing with different situations that could cause a long-lasting effect on the survivor. Accordingly, dealing with the effects of disasters should be different between adults and children. One of the considerations when trying to treat children is that they are mostly ‘dependent’ on their parents and are more vulnerable to the after-effects of the disasters.
