A goal of this field is to understand how various factors (biological, environmental) can interact and transact across development to impact risk of mental health problems (Beauchaine & Hinshaw, 2017).

PROMPT: Using a developmental psychopathology framework, take one mental health disorder listed below and explore how the presence of that disorder in childhood can impact cognitive, emotional, or social development.
Disorders: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)

Mental health issues in children often go unknown until they become severe and a challenge to treat. The acts and emotional challenges are never always temporary stages of normal growth. However, they can reflect the risk for or existence of psychopathology. There is a crucial gap in the scientific concept that has to be narrowed to differentiate the different developmental pathways. Developmental psychopathology can be used to explore how Major Depressive Disorder, a mental health issue in childhood, can affect their emotional development, social and cognitive development.
Major depression is a clinical condition characterized by determinedly depressed moods or a loss of desire in activities that causes critical damage in life. The possible causes for the condition are; biotic, psychological, and social causes of anguish. Further literature suggests that these aspects may cause reforms in brain function, including the altered activities of some neural circuits in the brain. Imbalances in the emotion systems are crucial to psychopathology among kids and adults (Pollak 2015). These issues affecting the emotional process include active and passive emotions, availability and lack of emotions, or the regulations and withdrawals among the sections of emotions.
Research on psychopathology implies that major depressive disorder affects the child. The depression makes a child isolated and withdraws from various activities in life. The child develops relationship issues and withdraws from their friends and families. They develop unfriendly behaviors and become irritable when around other people. Such factors can result in the child losing their relationships and forming and keeping new relationships. The potential for getting involves in adverse or abusive future associations is a significant issue among these children.
